Manchester United’s home and away kits for next season have been leaked one after another. The red home shirt draws its design inspiration from the classic kits of the 1970s. At that time, after the 1973/74 season, Manchester United were relegated from the old English First Division (then the top flight) to the Second Division. However, with the help of stars such as Lou Macari and George Best, the team wore this kit and achieved immediate promotion, marking a dramatic rebirth.

In 2026, The Guardian described the 1974 relegation as one of the most shocking falls of a giant club in English football history — it was also the lowest point in Manchester United’s history. The club’s ability to quickly emerge from the darkness perfectly embodies the never-say-die spirit that has always defined the Red Devils.

At that time, Manchester United’s kits were supplied by the Admiral brand, a local sportswear company from Manchester, England. Founded in 1914, Admiral originally produced military clothing and underwear. After 1958, it shifted focus to sportswear, particularly football. In the 1970s, Admiral became synonymous with British football and even sponsored the England national team.

The Admiral-designed kits for Manchester United once caused controversy. Adidas objected to the three vertical stripes on the left side of the away shirt, claiming they infringed on their trademark. As a result, Manchester United added an extra stripe, creating the famous “four stripes.” Eventually, the two brands reached an agreement, which included giving Adidas first refusal rights the next time Manchester United changed their kit sponsor.

According to the leaked images, Manchester United’s 2026/27 home kit uses the traditional red base, complemented by white details and black accents. A standout feature is the striped collar and cuffs, which closely resemble the Admiral kits worn between 1975 and 1980.

On the back of the neck, there is a special “UNITED” logo designed like a waving flag. The distinctive font stands out strikingly against the red background, surrounded by smooth white and black outline lines.

Adidas’s Manchester United 2026/27 home kit is expected to launch in the summer of 2026. Since the Red Devils under Michael Carrick have virtually secured Champions League qualification for next season, the club will receive the full £90 million annual sponsorship fee stipulated in the contract, avoiding any penalty reductions of over £10 million.

Owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has already demanded higher targets for next season, aiming to challenge for the Premier League title.

Manchester United’s away kit will feature royal bright blue as the main color, paired with white and red accents and subtle wave-like dark patterns, symbolizing “riding the waves.” The design draws inspiration from the blue kits Manchester United wore in the late 1980s.

Although nicknamed the “Red Devils,” blue has also been a regular away color for the club. The most recent use was in the 2024/25 season.

The last time the Red Devils used a royal blue and red combination was in the 2016/17 season, when José Mourinho’s team wore blue shirts and won the Europa League final 2-0 against Ajax.

However, the main inspiration for the new away kit appears to be the classic blue shirts designed by Adidas between 1985 and 1990, which featured the famous Sharp sponsor on the chest.

Manchester United’s third kit for next season will be based on an off-white/cream color, decorated with subtle Lancashire rose patterns and accented with deep green and maroon. The color elements are very similar to the 2023/24 away kit, but the overall design style is completely different.

This kit continues Adidas’s recent minimalist approach to third shirts, featuring a simplified Red Devils crest placed in the center of the shirt rather than on the left chest. The Adidas logo uses three stripes instead of the trefoil.

What do you think of the look of Manchester United’s new kits? But the most important thing is who will wear these shirts as new signings and what achievements the team will ultimately deliver. The most beautiful kit is always the one worn by champions!
